Kevin Durant Signs Record Breaking Contract

On July 1st, 2016, NBA superstar Kevin Durant signed a record-breaking two-year, $54.3 million contract with the Golden State Warriors. The deal, which has an opt-out clause for the second year, came after Durant decided to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder, following nine seasons with the team.

The contract is the richest ever signed by an NBA player, and sets the new benchmark for a maximum salary contract in the league. It is also the largest total contract amount ever signed by a player in NBA history, surpassing the previous record of $50 million set by LeBron James in 2015.

Durant's deal also makes him the highest-paid player on the Warriors' roster, exceeding the salaries of both Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The contract will also help the Warriors in their bid to retain the services of their other star players, as their salary cap will now be higher than ever before.

Durant's move to Golden State has been met with a mix of criticism and praise from fans, with many believing his decision to join the Warriors was motivated by a desire to win a championship. With the addition of Durant, the Warriors have quickly become the favorite to win the 2017 NBA championship.
